GAMIAN-Europe was established in 1998 as a representative coalition of patient organisations and the organization aims to bring together and support the development and policy influencing capacity of local, regional and national organizations active in the field of mental health. 

Its main objectives are to advocate for patients, to improve information and education on mental health problems, to fight against stigma and discrimination, to focus on patient's rights and to improve cooperation, partnerships and capacity building.
