Lawsuit to Be Filed Against Mexico for Human Rights Abuses Against Disabled
Last year, DRI and ABC News' David Muir exposed horrible abuses in Mexican institutions - forced sterilization, violence, and children with disabilities in restraints and abandoned in cages. After DRI's report was released, Mexico City authorities agreed to immediately end the practice of sterilizing women with disabilities and ban the use of cages and physical restraints.
Last weekend, however, ABC News and DRI staff revisited several facilities in Mexico City and found little to no change. On Tuesday, May 10, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir aired a piece which highlighted the continuing abuses and the government's lack of action since DRI first uncovered human rights violations in July 2015.
